Competing in the first ever
SW Indoor Championships at the University of Bath on Saturday 7th December
2007, Newquay & Par athletes came home with a handful of medals.
Charlotte Lowe competed in
the pole vault and with the equipment being of international standard the
starting height could go no lower than 1.95m, which was 1cm over her own
County Record. Charlotte not only cleared this height, but won the
competition with a new County record of 2.06m. Maria Brett suffered a nasty
fall the previous weekend and was unable to train in the week leading up to
the Championships but came away with a gold in the 60m hurdles & a bronze in
the 60m sprint. She was just short of her own County records which should
fall in her next outing.
Philippa Brett moved up to
the U17 age group for the first time and was delighted to win a silver medal
in the 60m hurdles in a time of 9.91. She ran very confidently and smashed
her previous best time by almost half a second. Philippa also improved her
best time in the 60m with 8.64 and was disappointed to miss qualifying to
the final by one place.
With the atrocious weather
conditions John Perkins was delayed on his way to Bath and only arrived with
5 minutes to spare. However, he won the veteran men's competition and
equalled his county record of 1.65m
